TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.
Originally from Louisiana, I moved to Houston after college, stayed for eight years then left for grad school in Boston and a stint in Dallas. After five years away, I’m back! I’m on a team of people starting a private high school in Memorial. (Yes, I work with children. Yes, they know how crazy I am.)

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT AND WHAT TIMES DO YOU ATTEND? WHAT MADE YOU START?

I’ve been doing CrossFit for a year and a half. I sometimes go to the noon class during my lunch break, but mostly at 4:30 or 5:30.

I started CrossFit during a very difficult time in my life. I was having severe anxiety and dealing with the death of a parent. My doctor wanted me to go on medication, but another recommended I try CrossFit. He said high intensity workouts can yield similar results as some medications and are better for you long term, and the recommendation changed my life. I lost a ton of weight, gained a ton of muscle, and met some of the most important people.

WHAT ARE YOUR CROSSFIT GOALS? (one short-term & long-term goal)

Short term, I want to be ready for speedo season! Long term, I want to live a healthier lifestyle. I want to be strong, but also be able to maintain a fitness regiment through CrossFit for years and years to come.

WHAT IMPACT HAS CROSSFIT AND LIVE OAK HAD ON YOUR LIFE IN AND OUT OF THE GYM? WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU SEEN IN YOUR OVERALL HEALTH AND FITNESS LEVEL SINCE STARTING?

Joining Live Oak my first week in Houston absolutely helped me transition back to life here. I’ve made amazing friends, and still get along with the many jaded lovers I’ve left along the way. Crossfit greatly improves my mood. Even on days when I don’t feel like going, the possibility of seeing George and Teddy shirtless gives me a reason to show up.

I was at another Crossfit gym for a year before moving to Houston, and I cannot reiterate enough how much stronger I’ve become. I push myself to lift heavier because the classes are small and I know I have someone watching my form.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CROSSFIT WORKOUT/MOVEMENTS?

I love split jerks! To me, they are the quintessential CrossFit move. I also love practicing my handstands. They make me feel young!

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE CROSSFIT WORKOUT/MOVEMENTS?

Wallballs are literally a hate crime.

WHAT IS ONE FUN THING ABOUT YOU THAT WE MAY NOT KNOW YET?

Well, I am not humble about this at all,  but my claim to fame is being LSU’s homecoming king in 2003. Since we were national champs that year, I like to say that made me king of NCAA football! Geaux sports!

LASTLY… WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO THOSE JUST STARTING OUT IN CROSSFIT?
You win every time you show up. Only compete with yourself. You get out of it what you put into it. Workouts are only Rx if you’re shirtless. Flirt with everyone; it makes them feel better!
